Sour Cherry & Goji Bircher Museli

Bircher muesli is such a great way to increase your consumption of dietary fibre, plant protein, vitamins and minerals, healthy fats, complex carbs and most of all its great because you can make it in advance to save yourself time & worry in the typical, morning rush!!

Sour cherry and goji Bircher muesli

 

  • 1 x cup oats 

  • ½ x cup hemp seeds 

  • ½ x cup sunflower seeds 

  • ½ x cup desiccated coconut

  • ½ x cup golden flaxseeds 

  • ½ x cup pepitas 

  • ¼ x cup buckwheat 

  • ½ x sesame seeds 

  • ½ x cup sour cherries 

  • ½ x cup goji berries 

 

METHOD:

  1. In an air tight jar, add all of the ingrediets, and mix together. 

  2. Store in the cupboard. 

 

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

  •  Add ½ x cup of bircher museli to a jar or bowl with 1 x cup of milk and half a grated green apple together and leave in the fridge over night.

Nutrition Info:

  • Nuts and seeds, particularly, sunflower seeds contain vitamin E. Vitamin E is an essential fat soluble nutrient that acts as an antioxidant in the body, and is an effective scavenger of lipid peroxyl radicals. Vitamin E also protects cell membranes from oxidative damage.

  • Sunflower seeds are also a particularly good source of B complex vitamins - which are essential for numerous functional processes in the body, such as neurotransmitter synthesis (serotonin, GABA, noradrenaline, histamine, dopamine), energy production; carbohydrate, protein and fatty acid metabolism etc.

  • Minerals such as magnesium, zinc, non heme iron, potassium, small amounts of iodine and calcium are also found in high amounts in nuts and seeds making it a nutritionally dense breakfast. Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzyme reactions in the body and calcium is required for our bone and teeth health, and is tightly regulated therefore is extremely important to ensure the RDIs are being met (Women aged 19-50 - 1000mg, >50 - 1300mg/day).
