Simple Apple Crumble

Who doesn’t love apple crumble? This recipe has a fabulous crumble to apple, ratio, and by that, I mean there is plenty of crumble! The perfect fibrous desert or breakfast as its packed with oats, almond meal, apples and spices to warm the soul! Its extremely versatile, and I know you will love it!

The apples are made with the addition of lemon juice to give them that extra tartness, which makes this recipe special! Sweet and sour, what’s better?

For the apples: 

  • 5 x apples ( I used 3 green + 2 red) 

  • 1 x lemon (juice) 

  • 2 x tbsp maple syrup 

  • 1 x tsp cinnamon 

  • ¼ x tsp nutmeg 

 

For the crumble: 

  • 2 1/2  x cups oats 

  • ¾  x cup almond meal 

  • ½ x cup butter (at room temperature) 

  • 3 x tbsp maple syrup 

  • 2 x tbsp brown sugar

Method: 

1.     Preheat oven to 170 degrees celcius 

2.     Peel, core, and dice apples and add to mixing bowl. 

3.     Add the lemon, maple syrup cinnamon and stir until all completely coated and then add to the bottom of a baking dish. 

4.     In a separate bowl, add the oats, almond meal and sugar and combine.

5.     Add the cubed butter, and maple syrup and use your hands to incorporate the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients thoroughly. 

6.     Add the crumble to the top of the apples and ensuring all the apples are thoroughly covered, and then pop into the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, depending on oven variability. 

7.     Serve with vanilla ice cream!
